I’m looking to open a ****** book- and party supply store, and I was thinking we might have a daycare off to the side so people don’t have to try to find someone to watch their kids while they go buy ****** books, magazines, artsy stuff. I think this is a great idea and will be a huge moneymaker, but I need some startup capital. Where can I get some startup capital??

There are some congressmen in charge of grants who might be able to help you. And some televangelists as well!
Let me know when you open. I **** having to ask my mom to watch the kids whenever I want a new vibrator

So listen. I might be persuaded to fund such a business. But the cost of not paying me back could be your kneecaps, capiche?

The government does not fund this type of business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for starting a for-profit business.
One possible exception is for companies developing or exporting agricultural goods, including food and forest product. Another exception could be the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs , which fund the research and development of technological innovation that meets specific government needs.
Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website
“The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments.”
Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) and Grants.gov – these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.
Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business — THERE’S NONE.

Go to your local government official’s office and take him out for a few drinks. One of those places with the stage, brass pole and “dancers” will do. Get him, or her, all liquored up and then pop your proposal and show him/her some prototype photos and stuff. That should loosen the purse strings a little.

Turn it into a Head Start program and you can get gov’t funds. And you can hire some ex-strippers or something so that people enjoy even dropping their kids off!
Strippers have a lot of love to give.

Maybe if you hurry up (before W is gone) and can tie in a sexual abstinence aspect, you could receive gov’t funding. It’s ***** enough that they’d go for it.

Go to for a list of government grants and how you can apply for them. However, there are no grants for a for profit business unless you are opening a daycare and then it is a minimal amount. If you need money, you will need to apply for a loan. No lender will talk to you unless you provide them with a valid business plan. Go to , or for sample business plans and instructions on how to write a business plan.
Then, go to and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor to review your business plan and discuss various loan options available to you.

Try starting up in California. Conan, I mean the governor, is throwing a lot of cash at after school programs. You program sounds perfect for the downtown area.
